Whenever you start a new conversation, that conversation will appear in your conversation list in the left pane. Your conversations are automatically separated into Direct messages and Teams. Additionally, you can create Folders and select Favorites to further organize your conversations.

Organizing conversations by folder

You can conveniently group relevant conversations together by creating folders so that you can always access important information between multiple conversations.

Creating a folder

  1. Navigate to Message via the left-hand navigation bar.
  2. Click the New folder button at the bottom of the app.
  3. Enter the folder name.
  4. Enter the names of the conversations you want to put into that folder.
  5. Select Create.

Moving a conversation to a folder

  1. Navigate to Message via the left-hand navigation bar.
  2. Hover over the conversation you want to move to a folder and select the More icon that appears at the far right of the name.
  3. Click Move conversation to….
  4. Select the folder you want to move the conversation to.

Favoriting your conversations

If you have certain conversations that you want to keep track of or prioritize over others, you may choose to favorite those conversations and move them to the top of your conversation list under the Favorites section.

There are several ways to favorite a conversation, but for the purpose of this article, we’ll discuss one common method. To favorite a conversation, follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to Message via the left-hand navigation bar.
  2. Hover over the conversation you want to favorite from the conversation list and select the More icon that appears at far right of the name.
  3. Select Add to Favorites option from the dropdown menu.
Add to favorites
Once you’ve favorited a conversation, that conversation will appear at the top of your list under the Favorites section.

If you’re in a conversation, you can also see if a conversation has been favorited via the star icon beside the name of the user or team name in the conversation header bar. You can also select the star icon at any time to favorite or unfavorite that conversation.

Sorting your favorites

If you would like to sort your favorites by order of importance, you do so by clicking, holding down, and dragging any conversation and moving it up or down on the favorites list.

Showing unread messages

Another way that you can organize your messages and remove the clutter in your conversation list is by choosing to filter your conversations by unread messages. This will also help ensure that you’re not missing important unread conversations because that conversation has been buried in your list.

To show only your unread messages in the conversation list, simply toggle the Show unread toggle on via the top of the conversation list pane.
