Intro to End-to-end encryption for Video

This article defines End-to-end encryption and explains how it safeguards Video communications.
 
End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is a privacy protocol that prevents third parties from accessing data when it’s transferred between devices. With End-to-end encryption, data is encrypted on the sender’s device and is decrypted only by its intended recipient.
 
Standard online practice is to use Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption. However, TLS encryption can still leave data vulnerable to privacy breaches. Vodafone Business UC offers End-to-end encryption as an optional additional level of privacy protection for video meetings. 
 
When End-to-end encryption is turned on, your data will only be accessible to the sender and recipient. No other parties, not even Vodafone Business UC, can access it. 

End-to-end encryption in Video

Video uses End-to-end encryption to ensure that your video meeting data is accessible only to meeting participants.
 
End-to-end encryption in Video serves three main purposes:
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your meetings’ audio, video, screenshares, and chat.
  • Protecting the contents of your meetings, even from your internet service provider.
  • Preventing anyone from accessing your data, even if Vodafone Business UC’s cloud servers are compromised.
Note: TLS encryption remains active at all times, even when End-to-end encryption is off.

Key features of End-to-end encryption in Video

  • Hosts can apply extra privacy protection to any part of a meeting by turning End-to-end encryption on and off during the meeting. 
  • Only hosts can adjust End-to-end encryption settings before or during meetings. The green shield icon lets all participants know that End-to-end encryption has been turned on.

  • Hosts can turn on End-to-end encryption for scheduled and instant video meetings.
  • Participants can join an end-to-end encrypted meeting even if they arrive before the host.
  • Using End-to-end encryption in a Video meeting protects the privacy of all participants, regardless of whether they join using the desktop, web, or mobile app.
  • Anyone with a Vodafone Business UC account can join end-to-end encrypted meetings. However, only users with paid accounts can initiate and schedule end-to-end encrypted meetings.
